Michael A. Core Memorial Scholarship Award

Michael Anthony Core (Oct. 29, 1990-Nov. 25, 2015) was the son of John E. Core III and Margaret A. Fallon. Michael was employed at Best Western Hotel and Conference Center, and he was pursuing his talents and interests by taking psychology courses at Harrisburg Area Community College.
He was loving, forgiving and incredibly understanding. Michael had faced many obstacles in his abbreviated life, but it gave him a remarkable ability to demonstrate empathy for everyone he met. His unique soul allowed him to reflect deeply and connect with others. Michael’s essence shines through in his photo and can be captured in his thought-provoking poem, “Thoughts.”
Thoughts
Rain falls down from an unseen sky,
and man looks up and wonders why,
he stands and ponders the world around him,
the weather, the stars, these things confound him,
inside his head, a battle is ever going,
but his imagination, never slowing, always growing,
leads him to contemplate all aspects of life,
yet such a quest often brings on the knife,
for not everything is meant to be known,
planted plans in a head, seeds to be sown,
some things just happen, the way they are,
and the most proven fact could be so far,
from the truth, the answer, life made clear,
but he’ll never know, his mind clouded with fear,
fear of the helplessness, not knowing the truth,
lost in the world, riddled by its sleuth,
his quest for knowledge is a quest for power,
so he searches for answers each waking hour,
all in all, he is lost, for power is misleading,
blinded by selfish greed, his ideals receding,
now he’ll take an answer, for an answer must be right,
people are brilliant, and the sun shines at night,
whether by God or science, no one knows it all,
the universe is too vast, and man, too small,
the only truth he can know, is that he does not,
instead of trying to win a fight, that will never be fought,
but happiness will be, if his quest comes to cease,
simply by learning to accept, and living in peace…
